In conjunction with the Hark Forward initiative of the MFHA, the Massbach Hounds and Fox River Valley Hounds welcome you to the 2017-2018 inaugural Hound Performance Trials. This Trial will be the first of 14 planned Hound Performance Trials held throughout the season and across the US and Canada. We invite area hunts to join us for a weekend in Massbach Hunt country.
The Massbach country is located in NW Illinois and provides over 50,000 acres of hunt country. Rolling hills with cropland, pastures, and strong covers provide the unspoiled setting. Plentiful coyotes provide perfect quarry for our hounds. Hound Trials Chairman Epp Wilson, MFH, Belle Meade says, “I have never seen a more beautiful hunt country anywhere in the world. This part of the Mississippi River Valley is breathtaking with incredible views of huge cornfields and pastures, dotted with woodlands. This makes for good drawing and frequent views of the quarry and hounds. Footing is good. The terrain is perfect – wonderful rolling hills – not too steep or too flat. And during our Centennial Tour, there was no better hospitality anywhere. I would not miss this for the world.”
The trial is conducted just like a regular mounted foxhunt with multiple fields. The only difference is there is a neutral huntsman to hunt the pack of hounds drawn from the participating hunts, this ensures the very best hound judging conditions. First and second fields will allow for all abilities to follow, and helpful staff will ensure safe conditions. The trial is a perfect opportunity to meet other foxhunters from across the country.
Housing and stabling will be offered, but due to limited availability, participation may have to be limited. $100/day capping fees will be collected to support the new MFHA Headquarters. Everyone is encouraged to attend and we look forward to enriching the bonds of our hunting community. In addition to Hunt Breakfasts after each hunt, dinners are planned for Friday and Saturday evenings.
